Juvenile Deliquency

JUVENILE DELINQUENCY

New York State prosecutes children as young as 7 years old for acts that would constitute a crime if committed by an adult. These are elaborate proceedings involving not only interpretations of criminal law and procedure but also the involvement of various government entities such as the New York City Police Department, New York City Department of Probation, and New York City Administration for Children’s Services

(ACS).  While there are numerous similarities, JD proceedings are also distinct from adult criminal proceedings. For example, JD matters are handled in Family Court, have no jury, and speedy trial clocks are faster.

WHAT CAN THE DROSS LAW FIRM DO FOR YOU?

“Getting arrested is frightening—even more so for a child. I know because I was once that child. While in foster care, I eventually became entangled with the wrong side of the law, being adjudicated a juvenile delinquent as a pre-teen and spending time in what is called a juvenile detention center—Crossroads and Spofford—but in reality, they were just jails for children. As a former Assistant District Attorney, I gained invaluable experience by being on the front lines. From interviewing victims, assessing arrests by speaking with police officers and detectives, and reviewing evidence to determining what charges to file and arraigning matters in court, I was hands-on. At The Dross Law Firm our clients’ matter, their family matters, and therefore lived experience matters.” - Arique Dross III, Managing Attorney.
